Current Church Models Lead to Large Churches And Large numbers of Unchurched @ e-Church.com
Posted by Mike Boyink
Here is my guess based on intuition and cobbled together reports. I tend to believe that the unchurched are sophisticated, smart and self-sufficient. They do not think they have “felt needs” nor do they want their spiritual formation programed. Why? Because formation is a mystery like the creative process.

Some interesting numbers from Barna study are linked to here.

Finally had time to read this post Mike. Our population is up 15% in this country since 1991, but the number of people not attending church is up 92%. (fron 39 million to 75 million) I have to admit I’m scratching my head too. We have larger churches but less people attending? Is that right? I wondering how many people are meeting in parks? It seems like those parks ought to be overflowing.
More blind than ever, Ed

Either that 15% of the total is larger than 36 Million people (enough to cover the difference) or we’re seeing a “Wal-Mart” effect at churches - smaller ones dying out or not growing? We’re probably in a bad spot in the country to judge any trends.
(This actually from Mike at Crissa’s computer…mine died!)
