How’s Your Homework Coming?

Posted by Daveg

Please Read Genesis 43-45 Before This Sunday

Wow!  If you’re not crying like a baby by the end of this one, you don’t have a heart!  It is an unbelievably moving story, and it merits our careful consideration.  What I’d like you to consider as you read this is, what is going on in Joseph’s heart as he interacts with his brothers?  Is he vindicative, toying with them, making them squirm, a little payback perhaps (remember the cistern thing?) And you thought your family was dysfunctional?  Come prepared to discuss.  See you Sunday.

  1. I have been thinking about this alot since last week.  Is it possible that Joseph wasn’t being completely vindictive, but seeing how his brothers had turned out.  They could have taken the grain and money ... and ran, leaving Simeon in captivity like they did Joseph… would they come back for him??  They could have told their Dad that he had died like they did with Joseph.
By putting them through all of that, he could see
how much they meant to each other… and he learned that they did feel badly about what they had done to them… There could have been a touch of vindictiveness, also ...  but he is the one that had a heart for God..
