Monk is a TV detective with more phobias than Sammy Sosa has homers. ( a baseball metaphor) Joan is a high school student who has regular conversations with God. Both of these TV sreies give me pause to reflect. Neatness, cleanliness, and noise are but a few of the phobias that can set Monk off. All the while solving some of the most unusal murder cases I’ve ever seen. My thoughts here are what are my phobias? Are they obvious? Do they make other people chuckle? Do we as Christians have have habits that make the world grin? How about the church? Lunch lady, janitor, teen hunk, and a little girl on the playground are but a few of the guises that God uses to talk to Joan. He usually has a task for Joan to accomplish for Him. Joan argues and wrestles with God and sometime gets it right, and sometime doesn’t have a clue what happened. She always wants to know why. Who does that sound like. It seems to always work out OK, although not in the way she expects. Monk is on the USA network Friday night at 10:00 P.M. Joan of Arcadia is on Friday night at 8:00 P.M. on CBS.  Give them a chance and let me know what you think. It’s summertime. You already seen everything else. Two thumbs up.

  1. Ed, I think we’ve discovered your “inner blogger”...;)

Our TV is on the shelf for the summer.

Maybe it’s time for a Manna Movie night?

    Who’s got the big screen?

  2. Let me get this straight, you put your TV on a shelf, Is that between your Air Supply and Barry Manilow records? Manna Movie night? Thats sounds like a good idea. We would need a big screen and surround sound. I’ll work on that. For my first nominee (pass the envelope please) I choose Monty Python And The Holy Grail. What would yours be.

  3. Air Supply?  Manilow?  “Records”?

    “Run away!  Run away!”

    ;)

I haven’t had records for over 18 years - just had a few in high school, but then bought my first CD player while working at Teermans in ‘86.  That was the end of records for me…

Crissa likes The Princess Bride and A Christmas Story.  I’m open to just about anthing…

  4. Lois let me buy a retro record player so I can play my 45’s and lp’s. So now I can play my James Brown live at the Appollo 1962 and the Clash’s London Calling LP’s. (That short for long plays) I can also play my Dave Edmunds “I Knew The Bride When She Used To Rock And Roll” 45. So the secret’s out, I’ve still got my records.
