Rob Bell’s Book: Hell? Universalism?
Posted by Greg
I’ve been asked many times over the last couple of weeks about what I think about Hell and universalism (in light of the discussion around Rob Bell’s book release). In response, here is an excerpt from chapter 14 of Lost in the Pages: A Character’s View of Life.
As much as we would both like to, we cannot avoid talking about Hell.
Here is the dilemma, as plain as I can say it: not all of our little stories will have happy endings. Some fraction of them (I have no idea how many, nor do you) will end grimly. This seems inevitable in any story with good guys and bad guys: the woodcutter rescues Little Red Riding Hood and chops off the wolf’s head, the wicked witch melts, Gollum clutches the ring and falls into the fires of Mount Doom. Not only does it resolve the plot, it brings justice to the story.
Can there be any doubt that there are bad guys in our stories?
