It starts with Eratosthenes who said “The Earth is Round and It’s this big” in 240 B.C. We are now discovering the world along the edges. Discovering the world by sailing along the coasts.

East and West is easier than North and South. Climates tend to be similar. Something happens in 410 AD. (the fall of Rome) Rome kept the known world safe, so when Rome fell it was not safe to travel.

The Middle Ages: The Rise of feudalism. Greg calls it a protection racket. Travel becomes very dangerous and thus infomation takes a hit. Europe becomes isolated.(500-1000 AD) The Legend of Prestor John and where he lived. Early Christian civilazations, possibly Ethopia, were talked about.

Marco Polo: was asked to bring back a 100 Christian teachers but only brought 2 because the Pope Clement iv (1268) died and it took three years to fill the position, and thus the oppotunity was lost to bring Christ to China.
